The Franklin Mint was commissioned by private companies and organizations to create numerous special purpose, limited edition medals. Some of these designs were selected each year to be issued as this set of Special Commemorative Issues, with the permission of the original organizations, and were then issued in a Proof set for Franklin Mint Collectors. These medals often represent major historical occasions or anniversaries and are very attractive designs. These sets were produced each year from 1970-1976. The table below shows only the silver mintage figures, but smaller editions were also produced in bronze each year.
